PPM Sentinel II & Sentry II Fiber Optic Link
Tabs

PPM's Test & Measurement Fiber-Optic-Link (FOL) Systems allow the user to transmit an electrical signal out of an area of high electromagnetic field strength to monitoring test equipment over optical fiber. For example, the output from a field sensor in an EMC test chamber may be transmitted to a spectrum analyzer or oscilloscope in a low field environment.

A FOL system consists of a shielded Transmitter with remotely programmable input range connected to a Receiver/Controller via a fiber optic cable and a Folnet Controller. An electrical signal applied to the input connector on the Transmitter is converted into an optical signal for transmission over the optical fiber to the Receiver, where it is it converted back into an electrical signal. The Transmitter is electromagnetically shielded for operation without breakthrough in very high field levels.

The Folnet Controller provides full remote control of the Transmitter gain, input selection, input impedance, Transmitter on/off and other functions. This enables the user to set up the link optimally for any measurement conditions. The user may control these functions via the front panel of the Folnet Controller, or by computer.

Sentinel II
The Sentinel II Fiber-Optic-Link offers a signal bandwidth of 2kHz to 1GHz. The 50ohm input and output means that they can be coupled to commonly used sensors and measurement systems. A range of built-in attenuators and a low noise pre-amplifier allow the user to vary the gain of the system from a nominal +21dB down to -24dB (for monitoring high level signals as high as 24dBm/10Vp-p), and up to +33dB (for detecting signals as low as -136dBm in a 1kHz measurement bandwidth ). The Transmitter contains four electrical inputs which allow up to four sensors to be monitored in turn, without the need to completely re-configure the measurement set-up. A calibration square-wave enables confirmation of system gain accuracy, and a buffer is provided to switch the input impedance to high impedance.

Sentry II 250
The Sentry II 250 Fiber-Optic-Link offers similar performance to the Sentinel II, but is optimized for lower frequency operation (40Hz to 250MHz bandwidth). This makes the unit ideal for pulse power and lightning work for example.
